A copy with the original in hand. The object is not to copy the original exactly, but to copy the spirit of the original exactly.

The barrel of the original is .88 inches at the breech, .85 at the small and .87 at the muzzle, 40 inches long. The new barrel is a .875 Rice straight barrel, 40 inches long, hand swamped like the original.

The lock is a Chambers late Ketland made much smaller and highly modified. The original rifle haas the original lockplate and internal parts but the hammer, frizzen and frizzen spring are replacements. The copy with the roller frizzen spring are actually more typical.

The rest of the parts had to be handmade.
